The Olympic Opening Ceremony in Brazil was awash with trademark colours, electric celebration and dizzying euphoria, but the standout performance for us was, of course, Brazillian model Gisele Bundchen's jaw-dropping, finger-snapping comeback.

Wowing an audience of approx 78,000 (and 3 billion more watching at home!) Gisele strutted down the catwalk in a gold sequin wrap dress created by fashion designer Alexandre Herchcovitch.

It was her longest catwalk to date and we assume her most memorable too (though with 20 years of modelling under her belt, it's hard to call).

The Brazilian-born model revealed to People before the ceremony how much this gig meant to her:

'This is for sure the longest runway I have ever walked in my life and by far with the most amount of people watching, so it is a little nerve-wracking I must say,' she admitted.

'This is a very special moment for my country and I am humbled that they invited me to be a part of such a special celebration.'

Prior to the ceremony, Gisele also posted this poignant picture to her Instagram:

Designer Alexandre Herchcovitch told Vogue how he may have been selected to design the dress due to his Brazillian roots, and described Gisele and his reunion as 'special'. He also revealed how the gold hue of the dress was intentional to match Gisele's hair and skin tone.

The designer also disclosed exactly what it's like to work with Miss Bundchen...

'Gisele knows exactly what looks good on her and what doesn’t, which makes the job much more objective and accurate,'

'She was always present in the process. She gave important opinions, and we thought about the parts together. She made some important changes.'

Gisele's career as one of the most successful models of all time wasn't always plain sailing. She was told she would 'never be a model' when she was only 14.

The model had the last laugh though. She has been the highest-earning model for the last two years running (and makes an eye-watering $44 million a year if you're interested).
