    Earlier we wrote...

'Fasten your seatbelts!' Ricky Gervais is returning to host the Golden Globes.

He may have vowed never to grace the stage at the ceremony again, but it's just been announced he'll be back to host the Globes for 2016.

After his three year stint as host between 2010 and 2012, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey have riffed their way through the past three ceremonies, but he'll now usurp the role on for the Globes on January 10.

Announcing the news, NBC Entertainment Chairman, Robert Greenblatt, said in a press release: 'We're excited to have Ricky Gervais back to host the most enjoyable awards show of the season in his own inimitable was. Disarming and surprising, Ricky is ready to honor - and send up - the best work of the year in film and television. Fasten your seat belts.'

It's fair to say Ricky ruffled a few feathers with his previous stints on the stage, with some critics saying he'd crossed the line with his jokes. In 2012 he famously introduced Bruce Willis as 'Ashton Kutcher’s Dad'. Needless to say, Bruce wasn't amused.

In 2012 Ricky wrote on his blog: 'I've told my agent to never let me be persuaded to [host the Globes] again. It's like a parachute jump. You can only really enjoy it in retrospect when you realise you didn't die and it was quite an amazing thing to do.'

    Clearly he's a thrill-seeker.
