Kanye West Criticised For ‘Multiracial’ Casting Call

The rapper has faced a barrage of social media backlash

Two days ago Kanye West tweeted an ad announcing that he was looking for models to walk in his upcoming Yeezy Season 4 show.

Though ever one to cause controversy, the 39 year-old sent Twitter into a frenzy after stating that he was seeking, ‘multiracial women only’.

With the fashion industry striving to overcome accusations that it is racist and lacks diversity each season, it’s no wonder Kanye came under fire.

After excluding both white and black women from the casting, the rapper initiated a debate as to what defines someone as ‘multiracial’.

One user took to Twitter to write, ‘Now imagine if a white singer said ‘white women only’’. Whilst another tweeted, ‘A casting call for 'multiracial women only'. How do you expect to determine that?’

Yet with the undoubtable success of previous Yeezy shows, and the fact that it has gained unprecedented recognition within the fashion sphere, (Anna Wintour is a permanent fixture at the shows) women queued around the block for the casting in New York. Whilst others took to Twitter in the hope of catching Kanye's eye to be subsequently chosen to model for his show.

One thing is for sure though, Kanye is sticking by his word, as his tweet has yet to be deleted. The next season is sure to be one to watch…
