If you’ve already worked your way through all 10 episodes of Netflix’s The Crown, you’re in luck: the BBC is bringing yet more royal drama to our screens – and this time, William, Kate and Harry will all be making an appearance.

The Olivier Award-winning play Charles III, which imagines what will happen when Prince Charles becomes King after the death of the Queen, is being adapted into a standalone drama for BBC Two

Peaky Blinders star Charlotte Riley has been cast as the Duchess of Cambridge, and told the BBC of her excitement.

‘It’s such a unique project,’ she said. ‘To be both modern and rich in verse and to play someone who is real but yet totally re-imagined for this story is an exciting prospect for an actor’

‘Kate Middleton is a really interesting woman, particularly within the context of this play, and it is a challenge I am really looking forward to,’ she added.

Aside from her role in Peaky Blinders, Charlotte has appeared in films like Edge Of Tomorrow, In The Heart Of The Sea and London Has Fallen. She will also star in Stephen Poliakoff’s new mini-series Close To The Enemy, which is set to air later this month. She has been married to fellow actor Tom Hardy (who she met while starring in a TV adaptation of Wuthering Heights) since 2014.

She’ll be joined by Tim Pigott-Smith, who appeared in the original play as King Charles, Oliver Chris (who you might recognise from The Office and Green Wing) as Prince William and Richard Goulding as Prince Harry.
