Kate Middleton’s every fashion choice can make headlines around the world, so it’s no surprise that her decision to wear a blush-pink gown from Alexander McQueen (the brand who designed her own wedding dress back in 2011) for her sister Pippa’s May nuptials has been well-documented.

Thanks to Kate’s legions of eagle-eyed fans, however, it’s now come to our attention that the Duchess was actually photographed wearing not one but two gowns on Pippa’s big day – and that outfit number one, worn en route to St Mark’s Church in Englefield, was bought at one of our favourite high street stores.

With just a glimpse of a shirt-style collar and floral pattern to go off, Twitter account @katesclosetau noted that in the pictures of Kate being driven to church, the Duchess is not wearing her McQueen gown but a more casual maxi-length shirt-dress from Zara.

The dress in question cost just £39.99, and was available to buy from the Spanish brand last summer, meaning that – apologies in advance, Kate fans – it has long sold out.

Given her sister’s memorable wedding dress code, which apparently decreed that guests should bring a change of outfit for the evening reception, this is probably the second of three looks which Kate wore on the day.

Of course, it’s not the first time that the Duchess has championed Zara: back in 2011, she chose a simple blue dress from the Spanish brand when she headed off on her honeymoon with William. As a thriftier counterpoint to her roster of go-to designers like Emilia Wickstead and Jenny Packham, Kate has previously stepped out in styles from high-street favourites Topshop, Whistles and Hobbs, famously wearing the pale pink ‘Shola’ shift dress from Reiss for her first meeting with the Obamas and often favouring her L. K. Bennett court shoes for royal engagements.
