20 years before Kate Middleton’s wedding to Prince William, the future Duchess of Cambridge and her younger sister Pippa had a starring role at the nuptials of their uncle, Gary Goldsmith.

Footage obtained by the Daily Mail sees the then nine- and seven-year-old Middleton sisters carrying out bridesmaid duties at the 1991 wedding of Gary Goldsmith and Miranda Foote, and the whole affair couldn’t look more Nineties.

Kate and Pippa wear puff-sleeved, full-skirted bridesmaid gowns in pale pink, with flower crowns that bear more than a passing resemblance to those worn by bridesmaids and flower girls at Kate’s 2011 ceremony.

The clips show Kate and Pippa walking down the aisle behind the bride, posing for wedding photos and running around the gardens after the ceremony has finished. They’re also each given a gift from the groom, as a thank you for taking part.

Fulfilling just about every oldest child stereotype, Kate appears poised and cheerful for the cameras, at one point demonstrating a very regal wave, while the younger Pippa looks a little less comfortable with the proceedings, fiddling with her floral garland and giving some slight side eye.

Their brother James Middleton wasn’t left out of the proceedings, acting as a page boy and dressed in a top hat and tails.

Pippa, who became a household name after acting as her sister’s maid of honour, is currently planning her wedding to James Matthews, and is thought to be getting married at St Mark’s Englefield this summer.

Just as Kate and Pippa were bridesmaids for their uncle, Prince George and Princess Charlotte are thought to be acting as page boy and flower girl for their aunt. Kate, however, is rumoured not to have an official role in the bridal party, not wishing to detract any attention from her sister.
