Rumours of a Gilmore Girls revival have been circulating for months with former cast members taking to social media to further ignite hope for an eighth season.

And when the news was confirmed that the cult classic would be returning to Netflix this year with a four-part series, the internet couldn’t cope (and neither could we).

And unsurprisingly so, as it’s been almost a decade since Lorelai and Rory first introduced us to Stars Hollow and we’ve been eagerly anticipating a sneak peak at the new series ever since.

But what we didn’t expect is it to come from no other than the First Lady, Michelle Obama. Undoubtedly the most unanticipated Queen of social media, Michelle made her Snapchat debut with a sneak peak of the noughties reunion…

And the trailer for the comeback which is officially titled A Year In The Life, is everything we could have hoped for and more.

The finale of course saw Rory head off to assist Barack Obama’s campaign trail so we weren’t surprised to see Rory arrive at the White House...

And with Michelle Obama prepping for her upcoming trip on behalf of the Let Girls Learn Initiative, the sneak peak shows Rory arrive with some, (a lot) of book recommendations. Ever the bookworm, she undoubtedly gets a little carried away as she declares, ‘I brought all of Shakespeare’. That's our girl.

And keen to accompany Michelle on her trip to Liberia, Morocco and Spain, Rory asks how she can follow along. Only for the First Lady to reply, ‘Well I’ve just launched my Snapchat account and it’ll show some behind the scenes action, so that may be one of the best ways you can follow along, how about that?’

And of course we can follow Michelle's trip on Snapchat too, as she prepares to travel to Liberia this week in aid of the Let Girls Learn Initiative. Michelle is due to depart this Sunday with her children in aid of the charity which hopes to encourage developing nations to educate 62 million girls who don’t attend school. So the trailer is not only to keep Gilmore fans content but to raise awareness of the great cause.

You can take a sneak peak at the show's revival here:

(Perhaps our favourite LOL moment is at the end, as Rory presents Michelle with a gift from her mum - pop tarts. FYI, it's a Major nostalgia moment.)
