Following a flurry of rumours last month, Michelle Williams has confirmed that she will play Janis Joplin in an upcoming biopic of the late musician.

In an interview with E News!, the Oscar winning actress shared her joy at bagging the big part. "I figure there's one good day in the life of an actor, which is when you get the job," she said when asked about the Janis Joplin movie speculation.

Williams opened up about the casting process and the highs and lows of landing a major role.

“Before you get the job, you're like, 'Come on! I'm begging. I'm dying for this. I gotta have it! Please, I'll do anything. I promise...Take me! Take me!'" she explained.

"You get the job and you're like, 'I got it! I'm so excited! I can't believe I have this opportunity. I can't believe I'm going to get to do this.' And then you start worrying the next day. I'm in the worrying-the-next-day phase," she continued.

Janis, set for release in 2018, is based on Love, Janis, a book by the singer's sister Laura Joplin.

Directed by Sean Durkin, the story will tell the story of the American blues singer who tragically passed away at just 27.

Williams is not one to shy away from playing an icon. Who can forget her amazing performance as Marilyn Monroe in 2011’s My Week With Marilyn?

We can’t wait for this one...
