Prince George just got the best present ever, ahead of his third birthday later this month.

Like most toddlers, the Prince is a huge fan of aeroplanes, so it must have been a huge treat for the young royal to accompany his parents to the International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire – the largest military air show in the world. The event marks the Prince’s first official engagement in the UK (he previously attended a special playdate during the Cambridges’ tour of Australia and New Zealand in April 2014).

Ahead of the day out, an official statement from Kensington Palace revealed that the Prince was looking forward to the trip, stating ‘The Air Tattoo is a fantastic family-orientated event. The Duke and Duchess know that George will enjoy seeing the aircraft up close.’

The Prince looked adorable as he arrived at RAF Fairford, and appeared excited (and even a little overwhelmed) as he was carried in turn by Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge (who had brought along a cute blue pig toy to placate little George – even mini royals get a little fractious, after all…)

George looked smart in a white polo shirt and navy blue shorts, and later donned some snazzy blue headphones to protect his ears. Judging from the photos, he’s already nailed that royal walk. Just look at him go…

He later got the chance to investigate an RAF Squirrel helicopter - the same aircraft which his father used in training at RAF Shawbury – before taking a seat in a Red Arrow Hawk. The result is one of the cutest royal photo opps we’ve seen in a while.

The event marks the 75th anniversary of the Air Cadets, an organisation of which Kate is a patron. The Duchess, who made her Snapchat debut with Serena Williams at Wimbledon yesterday, chose to recycle a bright blue shift dress by Stella McCartney.
