This year will mark 20 years since the tragic passing of Princess Diana and in order to commemorate her life, events will take place across the country this August.

According to The Sunday Times, her sons Princes Harry and William asked ITV and the BBC for programmes dedicated solely to the late princess.

A royal source revealed to the newspaper: "The Duke [Prince William] and Prince Harry have selected close friends and family members to speak about Diana, and some will be speaking about her publicly for the first time."

The BBC documentary will debut in August and will reflect on the nation’s reaction to Princess Diana’s untimely death at the age of just 36. On the other hand, the ITV programme, set to air in July, will focus on Diana’s philanthropic endeavours including her strive to combat the negative stereotypes surrounding HIV.

Princes Harry and William will feature in the documentaries alongside Diana’s brother Lord Spencer and close friend Rosa Monckton.

Monckton was on holiday with Princess Diana just a few days before she passed away and told the newspaper: "She had the ability to reach out across barriers of race and language, and had an intuitive sense of what was required of her in situations that most people would have found challenging."

She continued: "She should be remembered for all that she achieved in her life, for the power of her spirit, for the good that she did and for the lives that she changed."

A style muse, philanthropist and doting mother, Princess Diana inspired us all and the documentaries are just another addition to the exciting 20th anniversary celebrations taking place this year.
