This year marked the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth and she managed to make those who have a ‘birthday month’ seem less irritating.
The royals hosted endless events to celebrate the longest-reigning monarch, including a picnic on The Mall with over 10,000 guests and a black tie event held at Windsor Castle.
Yet it seems the Queen wasn’t joking when she said in a speech at her official birthday in June, ‘How I will feel if people are still singing Happy Birthday in December remains to be seen."
As another portrait to mark the end of her birthday year has been released. Back in April, a series of photographs of the monarch and her great grandchildren shot by Annie Leibovitz were released to celebrate the historic occasion. This was followed by a portrait of the Queen and husband Prince Philip in June.
But this time, the newly released image features the Queen and her son Prince Charles. The touching portrait was shot by fashion photographer Nick Knight and was taken the night before the Royal Windsor Horse Show in May.
Knight, renowned for his iconic collaborations with designers such as John Galliano and Alexander McQueen, said of the previously unpublished image: "It was a great pleasure and an honour to photograph Her Majesty The Queen and HRH The Prince of Wales at Windsor Castle.”
The Director of SHOWstudio.com continued, "I wanted to create a modern portrait that showed warmth and humanity as well as strength and tradition."
