“It’s your girl RiR”… Rihanna is set to appear in the fifth and final season of Bates Motel as Marion Crane, the role famously played by late Hollywood actress Janet Leigh in Psycho.

The news was revealed at a panel at San Diego’s Comic-Con, where it was also revealed that the fifth season would be the last.

Rihanna, 28, revealed the news in a video post on Twitter, saying: "I'm about to check into the Bates Motel very soon and guess what else? Guess who's playing Marion?"

Rihanna joins British actor Freddie Highmore (as Norman Bates) on the popular show, which has aired on the Universal channel over here in the UK.

“I read this article in which she [Rihanna] said she was a fan of “Bates Motel,” executive producer Carlton Cuse told the Comic-Con crowd.

“We asked and she said yes. It was awesome. We’re really excited about it. It really feels very much like the version of the character that is different from the movie.”

As well as RiRi’s casting news and the reveal that the show would finish after the fifth series, it was also revealed that Vera Farmiga would still be present in the fifth and final season despite being killed off in the last season.

Rihanna follows in the footsteps of Janet Leigh, who earned a Golden Globe win and an Oscar nomination for best supporting actress for her Psycho performance. Leigh died in 2004, aged 77.
