It’s been six months since we were treated to a first look at Stranger Things season two (yeah, six months). The 30-second teaser trailer featured plenty of nostalgia call backs to ‘80s sci-fi, opening with a clip from a vintage ad for Eggos (the preferred snack for Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven). In the brief clip we see Mike, Dustin and Lucas dressed up in full Ghostbusters get-up, the return of Eleven and a huge, spider-like monster silhouetted against a red sky – a mysterious threat that looks even more terrifying than the Demogorgon.
According to Netflix, the second season will take place a year after Will Byers’ return, with normality seemingly restored to the town of Hawkins. This being Stranger Things, though, there’s a new, darker threat lurking beneath the surface.
We’ve been waiting patiently all year for more season two teasers and crumbs of information, and finally Netflix has blessed us with an official release date: October 27. We’ve already cleared our diaries.
Netflix have also released a poster, which displays in its full glory the newer, more terrifying monster. Demogorgon, who?
Speaking to The Telegraph, Finn Wolfhard who plays Mike teased that season two would amp up the horror. ‘I think this season will be a lot more dark, a lot more horror-oriented,’ he said. ‘I think people are going to like it more than the first season.’
Joining the original cast for the second season are Sadie Sink as Max, who’s been described as ‘a tough and confident girl’ with ‘a complicated history’ and Dacre Montgomery as Billy, her older step-brother with ‘a violent an unpredictable nature.’
The show’s cast picked up the Best Ensemble trophy at last month’s Screen Actors Guild Awards, with star David Harbour (who plays Chief Hopper) using his acceptance speech to as a passionate call to arms, directed against President Trump’s immigration ban.
