The CEO of Twitter Jack Dorsey has laid out plans to introduce a set of ‘aggressive’ new rules to protect users on the social media platform. His announcement, explained in a string of tweets on his personal account, called for new rules about ‘unwanted sexual advances, non-consensual nudity, hate symbols, violent groups, and tweets that glorify violence.’
‘We see voices being silenced on Twitter every day. We've been working to counteract this for the past 2 years,’ his tweets began.
Dorsey wrote how tackling such crimes on the social media platform had been a top priority for his company but they still weren’t doing enough.
‘Today we saw voices silencing themselves and voices speaking out because we’re still not doing enough,’ the tweet stated.

Dorsey’s statements come following the boycott of Twitter in solidarity with Rose McGowan that started on Friday. McGowan’s account was temporarily suspended amidst her comments about the ongoing Harvey Weinstein case which led to thousands of women coming off the platform for 24 hours using the hashtag #WomenBoycottTwitter.
