Zoe Saldana has spoken out in the wake of Donald Trump’s upcoming inauguration, accounting Hollywood responsible for his electoral win.

The actress notably stood in support of Hillary Clinton throughout the campaign, even co-signing a letter with fellow Latino actors in Hollywood against Trump’s ‘anti-immigrant fear-mongering’.

But the 38-year-old has now openly criticised the actions of fellow Hollywood actors.

Saldana said in an interview with AFP: “We got cocky and became arrogant and we also became bullies. I’m learning from [Trump’s victory] with a lot of humility. If we have people continue to be strong and educate ourselves and stand by equal rights and treat everyone with respect, we won’t go back to those times.”

Saldana’s comments come just a week after Meryl Streep delivered an emotional anti-Trump speech at the 74th Annual Golden Globes, where the actress described feeling heartbroken after ‘the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter’.

Streep emphasised in her moving speech: “Disrespect invites disrespect. Violence incites violence. When the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose.”

But Zoe has suggested that she believes calling out Trump’s alleged wrongdoings led to his electoral win as she told AFP: "We were trying to single out a man for all these things he was doing wrong... and that created empathy in a big group of people in America that felt bad for him and that are believing in his promises."

Saldana's comments hit the headlines in the same week that fellow actress Nicole Kidman was criticised for telling Americans that they should support Trump.

Kidman told the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire show: "I just say he's now elected and we as a country need to support whoever's the president because that's what the country's based on. However that happened, he's there, and let's go."
