Cara Delevingne, in case you are reading this, we hope you're sat down. We have some bad news about your one true love.... bacon.

According to reports, bacon is to be ruled as cancer-causing as smoking. On Monday the World Health Organisation is expected to list processed meats, such as sausages, ham and bacon, as substances with a risk of causing cancer. They will be classed as the highest of five possible rankings on a par with asbestos, alcohol, cigarettes and arcenic.

Burgers are also expected to be included in the list, while red meat will be classed as slightly less dangerous than processed meats in the “encyclopaedia of carcinogens”.

An unnamed source reported to the Daily Mailthat scientists from 10 nations, including the UK, reviewed the research. This could lead to warning labels and new dietary guidelines placed on packs of bacon.

The Department of Health has previously linked processed meat with bowel cancer. The NHS recommend you should cut processed meats down to 70g a day, which is one rasher of bacon.
