While the 24-year-old is not new to the world of fashion or modelling (her first editorial gig was for i-D back in 2009), in the past year she has cemented herself as the Brit ‘it’ model to watch with campaigns for the likes of Calvin Klein and Marc Jacobs, a spot on the cover of Vogue, and a nomination for model of the year at this year’s Fashion Awards.

Here’s everything you need to know about the rising star...

The British-Ghanaian Model Comes From A Fashionable Family

Her mother, Camilla Lowther is the founder of CLM, the prestigious fashion management agency who has looked after the careers of Katie Grand, Rankin and Juergen Teller, while her father Charles Aboah owns a location scouting company. Younger sister Kesewa Aboah is also a model, and starred alongside Adwoa in her first campaign for H&M in 2010.

Big Designers Are Queuing To Sign Her Up

Signed with Storm Model Management London, Ford Models Paris and The Lions in New York, Aboah has racked up campaigns in 2016 for Marc Jacobs, Roberto Cavalli, Theory, Alexander Wang, H&M and Fenty x Puma. Most recently she starred in Calvin Klein’s SS17 campaign alongside FKA Twigs and Kendall Jenner, which was lensed by her boyfriend photographer Tyrone Lebon.

The models have been friends for nine years, and have matching half-heart tattoos to prove it.

She’s Passionate About Helping Young Girls

In late 2015 Aboah launched Gurls Talk, a movement that strives to create a platform where girls can openly share their experiences and feelings in a safe and trusting environment.

“With Gurls Talk I want to create a space wherein girls can have honest conversations about everything. It will be a weekly program to educate girls on mental health and addiction and eating disorders, but instead of it being a lecture coming from a teacher or a woman twice their age, I want it to be from women these girls can relate to, women who are speaking from experience,” Aboah told Teen Vogue.

She’s Been Very Open About Her Battle With Depression

In early 2016, Aboah created a video for StyleLikeU in which she spoke frankly about depression, drugs and self-hate. In the video she speaks about how she experimented with drugs as a teenager, her stint in an Arizona-based rehab and attempted suicide, and how modelling had affecting her self-esteem.
