At her London Fashion Week show, Anya Hindmarch proved once again that humour is her secret weapon. In the past she's called on breakfast cereal and scrunched crisp packets for inspiration, at her eponymous label's presentation this morning she again delved into the mundane for her spring/summer 2018 collection. Indeed, Anya called on the grey and beige (greige?) palette of suburbia's skies and architecture for inspiration.

Her models wore vivid sportswear and cold-shoulder dresses with intricate embroidery while carrying handbags that playfully nodded to the theme. There were padded ruffled bags with cloud-shaped trinkets and smiley faces attached in the overcast grey of a British winter. While the brand presented only one shape of spectacle - slight, rectangular and worn low on the nose - with clear and coloured lenses they showcased a choice of shoes. Box-fresh white sneakers walked out after peachy hued slides with padded hearts attached, T-bar flats and 1940's style heels followed cartoonish slippers with the label's quintessential googly-eyes attached.

Taking inspiration from the eiderdowns of a post-war two-up two-down house, Anya Hindmarch showed a 2017 twist on a housecoat with an appliqué collar and cuffed sleeves. Riffing on this, the collection was littered with padded, quilted and hand-stitched pin-wheel in bags that mimiced the puffed throw cushions a Stepford wife would have lining her bedspread. Likewise, a series of boxy totes printed with a cats face showed the label's confidence in their playful vision and new-found appreciation for the suburban lifestyle. For the customer that's spent more than one late night on the night bus home to zone 6 they will find the

silver kebab box clutch a friendly reminder of what suburban living is really like. Think of it as the Instagram-ready update on Anya Hindmarch's crisp bag clutch.
