As London Fashion Week draws to a close, we’ve taken a moment to reflect on the shows that snapped up everyone’s attention and iPhone memory.

From a starlit glittery venue at Ashish to ethereal back to basics beauty courtesy of Simone Rocha, this season has undoubtedly seen sartorial variety at its finest.

But there were five shows in particular that turned heads on the FROW. So we've rounded up everything you need to know about the catwalks on everyone's lips below (in case you missed them)...

Ashish

The Dehli-born designer has never been one to shy away from sequins. Ashish Gupta's shows often feature his signature embellished pastel pieces, his spring/summer ’14 collection going as far as to offer bejewelled Tesco carrier bags.

And this season was no different, as the designer drew on ‘Bollywood pop culture’ for inspiration. With a glittery ceiling decked in lights and models donning intricately embroidered dresses, the show was a magical affair.

But what the FROW didn’t expect to see was an unlikely creature walk the show, a live snake. Draped across the neck of a brave model, it was a fashion first. With Ashish being one of the most Instagram worthy shows season after season, the presence of a live snake rendered the catwalk a #nofilter winner.

Christopher Kane

For some, a slightly more sinister creature walked the show yesterday. Decked in crystals with a marble effect finish, the marmite of the shoe world took centre stage. The croc. Once a plastic slip-on deemed a sartorial safe choice for tourists, the highly debated shoe plodded the catwalk at Christopher Kane’s spring/summer ’17 show.

With a ‘make do and mend’ spirit behind the 10th anniversary collection, the Scottish designer used mismatched buttons and silk hankerchiefs inspired by his childhood to create the looks. Models donned head-to-toe cobalt marble, an indication that the homeware trend is nudging its way into the fashion sphere.

As for the marble printed crocs however, the jury is out. Dedicated fashion followers have already taken Balenciaga’s puffer jackets and Kane’s sliders under their wing but crocs might be a trend too far for some…

Molly Goddard

After a series of London Fashion Week presentations, the Central Saint Martins alumnus brought her tulle-filled creations to the catwalk. After making headlines with her candyfloss coloured wedding dress for model Agyness Deyn, Molly Goddard met even the highest of expectations with her debut show.

Models donned tightly ruffled skirts in pastel pinks and gingham, their tresses roped up atop their heads in high ponytails. Asymmetric net pieces hung from the shoulders of some, whilst others braved neon tutu-style skirts.

The flurry of rainbow striped jumpers and smocking was typical of Goddard’s aesthetic but this season she toughened up the sugary line with sheer dresses, allowing underwear to peep through.

Simone Rocha

The designer is renowned for her delicate approach to fashion, her pared back collections always maintaining an element of minimalism. But this season, Simone positively charmed us all with a - dare we say - grannyish aestehtic, with embroidered lace and pearly cream gloves.

The Victoriana style show cited Jackie Nickerson’s photographic essay Farm as inspiration, as the garments gave off an air of agricultural labour. The Dublin-born designer showed the collection at Southwark Cathedral, a serene backdrop to present the broderie anglaise heavy show.

One thing learnt from the collection is that intricate and traditional design is making a swift return in place of our newfound love of minimalism.

Burberry

There isn’t a season that goes by without the typical hysteria which shrouds the Burberry show and rightly so. Christopher Bailey brings a gaggle of fashion elite and supermodels alike to the FROW like no other show has the power to enable.

The usual suspects Anna Wintour, Cara Delevingne and Alexa Chung were in attendance at the see-now buy-now show.

Citing Virginia Woolf’s Orlando as his inspiration, the collection confirmed the return of pyjama style tops and charted British history with ruffled Elizabethan style collars and capes.

All 83 of the items donned by both male and female models are now on sale by the fashion house. Even the music is up for grabs as the soundtrack to the show, Reliquary, is available on iTunes.
