While most A-list actresses might choose Versace, Elie Saab or Louis Vuitton for a big red carpet appearance, Bryce Dallas Howard likes to buck with tradition. For last night’s Critics' Choice Awards, the Black Mirror star wore a dress straight off the high street. Yep, her olive hued empire-line maxi was from our favourite Topshop.
A purchase from New York department store, Nordstrom, the gown cost Howard a bargain $240 (approximately £189). ‘It's great. It's comfortable,’ the star told Entertainment Tonight. ‘It's flowy, which is good for this time of year—the holiday season.’
While most actresses will borrow their dresses directly from the designer, Howard prefers to buy her own. For the 2016 Golden Globes she famously eschewed help from a stylist and bought her Jenny Packham gown from Neiman Marcus.
The reason for her unusual choice of attire? It’s a struggle for Howard to find designers that will dress her size 6 frame (that’s a UK size 10).
‘I like having lots of options for a size six, as opposed to maybe one option so I always go to department stores!’ Howard previously told Giuliana Rancic on the Golden Globes red carpet.
‘When you're not 'sample' size, or when you don't have a direct relationship with a designer, or if you don't have a lot of notice, those types of size 6 dresses just aren't that available that much,’ Howard explained. Subsequently she prefers to buy her own dresses.
‘So, what I found is that if something is sort of last-minute, or I don't have a good relationship with a place, then I go to Neiman's, or I get something online. I like having lots of options for a size six as opposed to maybe one option.’
