Elle Fanning's Most Fashionable Moments So Far

Can we talk about Elle Fanning's exceptional wardrobe?

She may just be turning 19, but Elle is already a seasoned red carpet pro, having been a fixture at industry events and fashion shindigs since her breakout role in 2011's Super 8. She possesses a sartorial nous beyond her years, demonstrating an impressive ability to pull off looks that are both fashion-forward and age-appropriate: it's no wonder that she's a front row regular for brands like Gucci, Miu Miu and Rodarte.

With a signature style that's probably best described as 'feminine with an edge,' Elle takes fashion tropes that would verge on the saccharine in less capable hands - we're talking pastel pinks, floral embellishment, tiered skirts and pussybow necklines - and manages to make them look effortlessly cool. We're not in the slightest bit jealous. Not at all.

The rising star has been on our radar since she starred as Aurora in Disney's Sleeping Beauty re-boot, Maleficent, with a covetable promo tour wardrobe to rival that of her co-star Angelina Jolie: we're talking ethereal Alexander McQueen, co-ords by Aussie up-and-comers Ellery and a dreamy princess gown by Georges Hobeika, not to mention Elle's IRL Cinderella moment in beaded ice-blue Elie Saab.

Since then, she's clocked up innumerable mentions in the 'best dressed' lists, including a pitch-perfect Met Gala appearance in baby pink Thakoon and some enviable Gucci gowns on the promo trail for the Oscar-nominated Trumbo.

Currently promoting horror film The Neon Demon, she's once against demonstrated that she can wear pastels like no one else, opting for babydoll Giamba, princessy pink Zuhair Murad (a gown which also doubled-up as her prom dress. Aww) and dramatic peacock print Valentino. Oh, and she's also finally succumbed to Instagram, creating an account to coincide with her 18th birthday, but you won't find Facetuned selfies and cups of artisan coffee on her grid. Instead, Elle's all about alternative posing and shoutouts to The Lizzie McGuire Movie.

Even at the airport, Elle's style is one step beyond the standard tracksuit get-up. Always equipped with round glasses and donning something bright, she refuses to be inconspicuous.

One of Elle's biggest roles to date is playing Julie in Mike Mills' film 20th Century Women (2017) alongside the likes of Annette Bening. The film was nominated for two Golden Globe Awards as well an Oscar nomination for as Best Original Screenplay.

To promote the film, Elle stretched her sartorial wings and wore a pale yellow embellished two-piece by Rodarte with Jimmy Choo heels and Tiffany & Co. jewellery.

Elle also starred in Live By Night with Ben Affleck (writer and director) and Sienna Miller. She dazzled at the premieres, wearing a pale yellow strapless dress by Oscar de la Renta and a black shirt dress by Carolina Herrera.

Elle's style excelled once again when she went to the Sundance Film Festival in Utah. She wowed in a pale pink Max Mara coat and dramatic bow-tie, and then kept it simple in a cream off-shoulder dress and then t-shirt and trousers.
