Sex and the City fashion truths in your 30s

The wise (and famously well dressed) Carrie Bradshaw once said ‘enjoy yourself. That’s what your 20s are for. Your 30s are to learn the lessons. Your 40s are to pay for the drinks’. And as usual, she was right. If there’s one decade during which you totally nail your wardrobe and begin to gain confidence in your sartorial choices, it’s your 30s. With that in mind, we asked some 30+ fashion bloggers to share what they’ve learned so far…

Simplicity is key

‘Simple is best - this doesn't mean you have to adhere to a strict minimalist palette or wardrobe, but injecting a little bit of simplicity in your attire is definitely welcome. Who has time for major wardrobe headaches first thing in the morning anymore?’

*Laëtitia Wajnapel, Mademoiselle Robot*

Ignore the haters

‘As cheesy and clichéd as it might sound, the biggest truth I learned is to care less about what people think - to wear what I like, not what I think others like - and be confident in my own skin. I regret not wearing some of the clothes I wanted to when I was younger, just because I wasn’t confident enough to wear them. If I could go back in time and do it all over again I’d wear that tiny crop- top with my high-waist jeans instead of hiding under a giant plaid shirt, invisible to everyone.’

*Niki Whittle, Style Studs and Lace*

Buy less, spend more

‘For me, it was about finally learning to spend more on less and creating a capsule wardrobe of items that are timeless, not just buying into the latest trend that won't suit me and will shrink the first time I wash it.’

*Fritha Quinn, Tigerlilly Quinn*

Personal style above fashion

‘Brands in your teens, fashion in your 20s and style in your 30's. That’s my mantra’.

*Sandra Nardi, Lady Wimbledon*

Make a statement

‘Don’t be afraid to invest in statement pieces you'll wear again and again. It's totally fine to spend that bit extra on the perfect colourful dress that you'll go back to season after season. Dress loud, dress proud!’

*Jo and Victoria, She and Hem*

Take risks

‘In my late 30s I realised I want to look great but the bland way I was dressing wasn’t going to get me there. Your 30s is the time to start taking risks and enjoying what you wear – never mind what anyone else thinks!’

*Catherine Summers, Not Dressed as Lamb*
