Gisele Bundchen has got plenty to smile about. The Brazilian beauty has topped Forbes's list of the highest-paid supermodels on the planet for the seventh year in a row, despite being $3million down in earnings on 2012. Gisele may have taken less to the bank over the past 12 months, but with an annual salary of $43million she's raking in six times more than Australian model Miranda Kerr who came in second place with $7.2million - $3.2 more than last year.

Depite having retired from her role as a Victoria's Secret Angel, Gisele still boasts lucrative contracts with Pantene, Oral-B and Sky HDTV and has appeared in Autumn Winter 2013 campaigns for Chanel Beauty, Louis Vuitton and H&M. However, Forbes credits much of her financial success to her partnership with Grendene, the footwear company based in her native country in which she owns a stake. Since 2012 Grendene's shares have almost doubled - proving that Bundchen is equipped with the winning formula of beauty and brains. The mother of two, who is married to American football quarterback Tom Brady, also earned $4million more than her husband last year.

Meanwhile Miranda Kerr has jumped up the list from seventh place last year, and contracts with Quantas, David Jones and Mango have helped secure her rise in fortunes. She's also taken the smart cookie approach to modeling and launched her own skincare line, Kora, which she heavily promotes through her social channels. Interestingly Orlando Bloom's better half has also enjoyed a close relationship with Victoria's Secret. In fact only two of this year's top 10 - Kate Moss and Carolyn Murphy - have yet to walk in one of the lingerie giant's iconic fashion shows - proving that despite VS reportedly paying less these days, for a top model the publicity alone is worth getting out of bed for!

Speaking of which, third on the list is another Brazilian star, Adriana Lima. Over the last year Lima, who is the longest running Victoria's Secret Angel with 13 years worth of wings under suspender belt, became the first pregnant woman to appear in the Pirelli calendar and was announced as the new face of Desigual taking over from Israeli model Bar Refaeli.

Kate Moss may have slipped down two places to number four on the list, but she's seemingly signing more contracts than ever after celebrating 25 years in the business. This year alone she's appeared in campaigns for Versace, Stuart Weitzman and Kerastase among others and collaborated with Carphone Warehouse on a range of phone accessories.

While regular catwalk faces Joan Smalls, Hilary Rhoda and Candice Swanepoel all made the cut, this year's rising stars including Karlie Kloss, Cara Delevigne and Kate Upton were left outside the top 10. Equally surprising is the fact that Heidi Klum no longer counts as a model as fashion design and television work have seen the German superstar diversify into the world of entertainment.
