Jaden Smith has been announced as the new face of Louis Vuitton's SS16 campaign - for womenswear, that is. Nicolas Ghesquière, the house’s artistic director, announced the news on Instagram by posting an image from the campaign shot by Bruce Weber.
Actor-stroke-rapper Jaden wears a leather jacket, fringed wool top and metal embroidered pleated skirt. Though men starring in women’s campaigns isn’t an entirely new frontier in fashion, it's a positive for all of us to see a famous guy so comfortably dressed in high fashion womenswear.
Especially as Jaden's outfit isn't that much of a departure from how he dresses every day. Will and Jada’s son is no stranger to crossing assumed gender lines with his look - last year he took Hunger Games actress Amandla Stenberg to her prom dressed in a black tuxedo jacket and a long white skirt.
Louis Vuitton’s menswear collection will debut in a few weeks. We’ll just have to wait and see if Jaden will star in the show.
