The Delevingne Dressing The Duchess
Eagle-eyed frock-watchers might have noticed that Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge has stepped up her style game. There’s been the Jenny Packham powder blue number at the Bond premiere last month and then – totally off K-Mid territory – the bang-on-trend voluminous tiered floral Erdem she wore to a do at the V&A.
Now Grazia can reveal that the duchess, who has famously always shunned stylists, has been seeking style advice from one of the most fashionable families in the country – the Delevingnes.
But before we all get terribly excited at the idea of Cara popping over to Kensington Palace to rifle through the duchess’s wardrobe, it’s actually the model’s mother, Pandora, who is said to have been advising Kate.
Pandora, 56, is a personal shopper at Selfridges and has spent her career advising the rich and famous on their wardrobes, and sources say Kate – who has known the Delevingne family for years – recently sought her expertise.
‘Pandora advised Kate on both the Jenny Packham and the Erdem dresses she wore,’ said our impeccably placed royal source. ‘She adored the Jenny Packham dress, but needed a bit more convincing on the Erdem one as the shape was very unusual, but Pandora encouraged her to go with it.’
Indeed, the 33-year-old duchess has long been a fan of the London-based Canadian designer, but the £2,660 floral satin tiered dress she wore for the 100 Women in Hedge Funds dinner at the Victoria and Albert Museum was definitely a break from her normal, more conservative style.
‘Kate really wants to try more daring choices, so naturally turned to Pandora,’ added our source. ‘They’ve known each other for years and Kate trusts her advice.’ And well she should, as advising royalty is in the Delevingnes’ blood. Pandora’s mother Jane Sheffield was a long-serving lady-in-waiting to the Queen’s sister, Princess Margaret. ‘The Delevingnes have impeccable royal connections,’ added the insider (although sources are quick to point out that this is not an official appointment, and Kate continues to oversee her own wardrobe). ‘Pandora is happy to advise the duchess, she enjoys it and regards it as an honour.’
