Lena Dunham And Jemima Kirke’s New Lingerie Campaign Is Powerful

Lena Dunham is no stranger to nude scenes on-camera. While controversial at the time when her hit show Girls was released four years ago, Dunham attracted more attention for her self confidence, body-positive values and role model status for young women. In fact, in a Lenny newsletter this year Lena announced that she will no longer allow magazines to photoshop her image.

‘I am done,’ she wrote in her essay named ‘Retouched by an Angel’. ‘With allowing images that retouch and reconfigure my face and body to be released into the world. The gap between what I believe and what I allow to be done to my image has to close now.’

And now in a beautiful set of unretouched images shot by Zara Mirkin, Lena and her longtime pal and co-star Jemima Kirke have teamed up to front a lingerie campaign for up-and-coming label Lonely.

As part of the New Zealand-based brand’s body-positive series 'Lonely Girls Project' (‘an ongoing journal series featuring candid portraits of inspiring women in their own spaces wearing Lonely, their way,’) the actresses - currently filming the sixth and final season of Girls - are pictured posing and putting makeup on each other in a Brooklyn apartment.

The new design house 'celebrates the strength and individuality of women and creates lingerie, swimwear and clothing that embraces and empowers them,’ Lonely designer Helene Morris reveals. ‘Inspired by the women who wear it, each collection is part of an ongoing conversation that maintains a consistent design ethos committed to outstanding comfort, unique signature silhouettes, and custom prints and fabrications.’
