American Vogue made history when the fashion publication endorsed Hillary Clinton during the presidential campaign - a first in its 125 year reign.

The presidential candidate was profiled six times in the publication as editor-in-chief Anna Wintour was no stranger to voicing her political opinion.

On the endorsement of Clinton, Wintour told Wall Street Journal in a recent interview: "Obviously we felt it was a moment in history for women. At times like that you need to take a leadership position…. To me, it was in support of women."

But the editor-in-chief went on to suggest that she wouldn’t hesitate to put First Lady Melania Trump on the cover.

She told the publication: "We have a tradition of always covering whoever is the first lady at Vogue and I can't imagine that this time would be any different."

Wintour continued, "women have been on everybody's mind [since the election]."

This will not be the first time Melania has appeared on the cover of US Vogue however, as she graced the cover 12 years ago when she first wed Donald Trump, who at the time was considered a reality star.

But with recent backlash against Trump's controversial policies, Wintour could face criticism if Melania fronts the publication.
