Everybody knows that New York fashion week is about so much more than what happens on the runway – it’s about what happens on the streets, too, where key fashion editors, insiders and influencers show off their impeccable street style.
Each fashion capital – be it London, Milan, Paris or New York - has its own unique personality and this is definitely reflected in the wardrobes of the style set pounding the pavements between shows.
In New York this season we’ve already spotted some significant street style trends coming through - the aesthetic is split between chic power tailoring in bold prints and pretty end-of-summer dressing in florals. Here’s what else we’ve found…
It may not seem like a typically ‘New Yorker’ thing, but floral dresses have been surprisingly omnipresent this season. Whether they’re boho-inspired with flowing sleeves or a maxi cut skimming the ankle, one thing unites them – they’re pretty, girly and totally wearable come winter, too.
As you would expect, chic separates and tailoring have taken precedence in New York. We’re talking matching floral print trousers and jackets as well as the classic all-black uniform that us city girls love. Playful accessories add an extra bit of excitement.
There has been an abundance of stylish partners-in-crime this season, with seemingly everybody texting their friend before a show to make sure they coordinate (or it’s just serendipitous, but we’re sceptical on that one…)
Clunky, oversized bags are officially over. Instead, expect to be spending a significant amount of time deciding on what essentials you actually need because that hairbrush, iPhone charging pack and compact mirror just won’t all fit…
The perfect solution to end-of-summer dressing, elegantly pleated maxi skirts in metallic and bold hues have been popular in New York. Teamed with a simple white tee or contrasting coloured crop top and you’ve got city chic nailed.
