When the A-list put their glad rags on for the awards ceremony of the year, they’re sartorially prepping in the hope that they may be accepting an award.

So Hollywood's biggest names are under pressure to make the moment memorable. And so this season, it seemed the majority of starlets sought sartorial inspiration from the grand prize itself, the Oscar trophy.

Dressed head-toe-toe in metallic hues the likes of Emma Stone and Dakota Johnson proved they’re the golden girls of the moment at last night’s ceremony.

But was the golden theme a coincidence?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, dressing like the award itself can be considered a lucky charm. Yes, seriously.

Of all the women to win Best Actress since 1929, nine out of 73 winners donned gold to the ceremony. And further stats revealed that as many as 50 percent of women who wore the metallic hue to the Oscars in the past have gone on to win big in the last ten years.

Most notably, Meryl Streep won the award for Best Actress twice in golden attire.

And last night, stars took the sartorial superstition into account as they wore the most lust-worthy gold dresses imaginable.

By far one of our favourite looks of the evening. Dakota Johnson opted for a buttery gold Gucci gown. The '20s-inspired shoulder pads and pleats work well against the satin finish. 10/10.
