Theresa May is set to become the first Prime Minister to appear in the pages of American Vogue, it has been confirmed by Downing Street.
The PM will reportedly appear in a spread in the April (not May) issue of the magazine, which will appear on newsstands in March.
May was shot by renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz at Chequers, the Prime Minister's country retreat, which was kept under wraps by Vogue editor Anna Wintour (who was made a Dame in the 2017 New Year's Honours).
According to a report by PA, Downing Street sources denied that the Vogue feature has any connection with a planned visit to the US, where May will meet new President Donald Trump for the first time.
While Margaret Thatcher, the UK's only other female Prime Minister, appeared in British Vogue several times, May is the first PM to make the pages of the fashion bible's US edition.
It isn't the first time that May's distinctive fashion sense has made the headlines: the Prime Minister's love of bold colours and statement shoes has been much commented upon.
Last year, May was criticised when she was pictured wearing a pair of £995 leather trousers in the Sunday Times Magazine, prompting her colleague Nicky Morgan to comment: 'I don’t think I’ve ever spent that much on anything apart from my wedding dress.'
