It’s official. Our Thursday lunch break shopping habits and never-ending demand for could-be-designer pieces at high street prices have finally jeopardised Topshop’s popularity.
According to Media Vision Interactive's Fashion Demand Report, Google searches for Zara increased by 20 percent in 2016 compared to the previous year. Total searches reached an impressive 2,691,929 last year, compared to 451,929 in 2015.
Other Inditex heavyweights including Bershka, Pull & Bear and Stradivarius also experienced a significant rise in overall online demand.
Stradivarius underwent the most significant change however, as the retailer noted a 66 percent increase in consumer interest.
Topshop on the other hand, experienced a dip in search by eight percent. It is believed that the unanticipated drop may have been as a consequence to the Philip Green BHS scandal last year.
Arcadia did not fare well on the whole, as sister brands including Miss Selfridge and Dorothy Perkins also noted a similarly disappointing result.
The brand which experienced the greatest increase in Google searches however, was Pretty Little Thing, as demand has grown by an impressive 84 percent.
To compete, Topshop will need to up it's sartorial game next season.
