The biggest talking point here at New York Fashion Week? No, not the runway streaker, but icy-weather wardrobes. And who better to turn to for advice than queen of all things stylish, Alexa Chung.

'You need a good coat,' the Brit told us when we asked for her tips at the Marc By Marc Jacobs show today. Indeed, the proof is in the pudding as Alexa arrived wearing an eye-catching metallic number from the American brand over cropped skinny jeans accessorised with black boots, a ladylike handbag and a pair of bug-eyed sunglasses.

'I'm inspired by a '60s dragonfly so I got a space age coat from Marc By Marc Jacobs,' she explained in her brilliantly sartirical way. 'I was going to wear a dress but it's too cold and no matter how good that might look in a picture, I just can't do that to my kidneys.' A sensible move, we're sure you'll agree. And how about the footwear dilemma? 'My footwear is fine…I think. These boots are weirdly sturdy and the ice has subsided somewhat so it's less of a disaster zone.'

Alexa took her seat alongside FROW pals, Atlanta De Cadenet and Tennessee Thomas. 'I'm here because I'm excited to see what Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley have done with the brand,' she says. 'I was always such a huge fan of Luella so I'm thrilled she's designing again.' Yes, we can totally see the Chungster working one of those tartan capelets with a dramatic bow at the neckline.

But it's not all fun and games. As we reported last week, the style star has been snapped up by luxury ecommerce site My-Theresea.com to give us the inside fashion week scoop through her eyes, although it doesn't sound like too much hard work. 'I'm good friends with Justin [O'Shea, Buying Director] and Paula [Reed, Creative Director] so we've just been hanging out. Paula's a mega babe so it's been a pleasure'.
