Because it’s never too early to start thinking about coats and boots.

Summer may still be in full swing but in fashion world August signals the start of a new season. While we’re still hoping (and praying) for the mini heatwave we’ve been promised, the shops are starting to fill up with coats, jackets, knits and boots. And - dare we say it - it’s making us rather excited for Autumn.

The high street’s debut AW16 drops showcase a first glimpse at the trends we’ll all be obsessing over in the coming months, and we’re pleased to report there’s some gems. Best of all, these Autumn trends can totally be worn now.

First up, leopard print. Animal inspired patterns were spotted on the catwalks at Dolce and Gabbana, Calvin Klein and Givenchy, and the high street have jumped on this trend. Forget the Pat Butcher association, the must-have piece for AW16 is the leopard print coat. Or in this instance, Zara’s leopard biker - it’s everything we could ever ask for in an Autumn jacket.

The fashion universe has not tired of its 90s fixation. Slip dresses, grungey checked shirts and chokers are going nowhere. In other news, ruffles are still going strong, they've just had an Autumn-appropriate makeover - we love H&M’s flounced sleeved polo neck and ASOS’s ruffle shift.

However old we get we can’t shake September's back-to-school feeling, and sartorially this is defined by buying a new winter coat. If leopard print doesn’t float your boat, checked coats have started to flood the shops and duster coats still reign on.

We can’t talk about Autumn shopping without mentioning boots. The perennial ankle boot has been reimagined in new fabrics (look our for velvet, embroidery or brocade) and updated with new details (think contrasting heels and unusual strap embellishments) for this season. Case in point: ASOS’s floral offering and the already-cult Mango boots.

To help you navigate the overwhelming selection of covetable pieces we’ve rounded up our favourites. Scroll down to see the best of the best from ASOS, Topshop, H&M, Zara and Mango.
