Halloween is fast approaching and if you’re yet to sort your outfit for the weekend then panic not, we’re here to help.

Dressing up for October 31st doesn’t necessarily mean painting your face white and using a whole bottle of fake blood. Nor does it mean dresssing as a witch or a cat for the fifth year in a row. Some of our all-time favourite film and TV shows provide the perfect outfit inspo for All Hallows' Eve, and these costumes manage to be both budget friendly and stylish.

At this late stage in the game, it’s best to maximise on your assets (a.k.a your natural hair) instead of messing around with hair dye or a wig. Whether you’ve got a blond bob or long auburn locks, we’ve found an option for you. Scroll down to find yours…

Blonde hair character ideas

If you have blonde short hair…

**Carey Mulligan as Daisy in The Great Gatsby **

Channelling the iconic character of Daisy couldn’t be easier. Give your bob a 1920s twist with the addition of sequin headband (find at any good haberdashery) and simply throw on a sparkly dress and heels.

If you have medium length blonde hair…

Gwyneth Paltrow as Margot in The Tenenbaums

A style icon in recent years, Margot Tenenbaum’s look in Wes Anderson’s cult 2001 movie couldn’t be easier to replicate. Style your medium length hair in her signature side parting and head to your local charity shop for a faux fur coat.

If you have long blonde hair…

Alicia Silverstone as Cher in Clueless

We’re always looking for an excuse to revisit one of our favourite nineties movies, and Halloween provides the perfect opportunity. Capitalise on your long blonde hair and convey Cher in a tartan yellow two piece. Cher’s suit may have been John Paul Gaultier but we suggest you traul through a nearby vintage shop.

If you have short red hair…

Christina Hendricks as Joan in Mad Men

Bring some sixties glamour to whatever Halloween party you're attending by dressing as the always-elegant Joan from Mad Men. Dig out a figure-hugging dress (or opt for a shirt and pencil skirt combo), recreate her classic up-do and don’t forget her bright scarlet lipstick.

If you have medium length red hair…

Shannon Purser as Barb in Stranger Things

You could not get a more 2016 costume than a character from the Netflix hit, Stranger Things. If you were one of the many people who binge watched the show (and have red hair), then Barb might be your Halloween alter-ego. Source a pair of oversized glasses and a checked shirt and you’re good to go.

If you have long red hair…

Deborah Ann Woll as Jessica in True Blood

For a more traditional Halloween option how about Jessica from vampire TV show, True Blood?. If you have long auburn hair, minimal effort is required. You can wear whatever you like, just don’t forget some fake fangs, red lippie and a smidge of fake blood.

If you have medium length brown hair…

Uma Thurman as Mia Wallace in Pulp Fiction

If you’re blessed with dark hair and a fringe then this is your time to shine. Channel your inner Mia in a black mini and choker (cigarette optional).

If you have long brown hair…

Anjelica Huston as Morticia Addams in The Addams Family

Fan of all-black-everything? Well then this is the costume for you. Make the most of your long dark hair as Morticia. All you need is a black dress and some time to spend on your makeup - go big on the blue eyeshadow and red lipstick and definitely skip the bronzer.
