Not sure what to wear post-party season? We've spotted a new street style trend making waves: introducing #lampshading.

Now trending on Instagram, this clever trans-seasonal look pairs two of our favourite winter staples: the thigh-high boot and the XXL knit. The idea of lampshading is to make your silhouette match that of (you guessed it) a lampshade by teaming a baggy or oversized top with sleek, leg-hugging boots. With just a flash of thigh showing, it's a forgot-your-trousers moment, with the oversized silhouette on top balancing out the foxy factor - and leaving extra room for any festive weight gain (always a bonus).

The lampshade effect has been spotted on everyone from Kate Moss, who teamed a slouchy roll neck jumper with a stacked-heel boot, to Kourtney Kardashian, who paired her extra-long legwear with a sporty sweater in dusky pink. Her younger sisters Kendall and Kylie are also fans of the trend. Kylie first dabbled with lampshading back in August, when she was snapped wearing an oversized blue and black checked shirt with suede knee-highs, in a departure from the body-con styles she usually prefers.
