Pretty In Pink! How To Wear This Season’s Sweetest Shade

Pretty In Pink! How To Wear This Season’s Sweetest Shade

Pink. What first springs to mind? Perhaps Barbie, Disney princesses...or photos of your 5-year-old self in a series of girly, prim dresses your mum bought from Laura Ashley. It's fair to say the girlish tone has had a poor rep in the past - being labelled as too ‘twee’ and ‘childish’ to warrent too much space in our wardrobes.

But thanks to the AW16 catwalks, the candy floss hue just got a cool-over. Everyone from Preen’s pink, Nirvina-listening punks on the runway to Alexa Chung are pioneering the trend. Here’s your go-to guide to ‘blushing’ this season…

The statement coat

The pink cover-up is your best friend – from Preen’s ‘60s-style, shaggy full-length coat to Alexander McQueen’s granny-chic number.

Finishing touches

Pink tights are the new nude, according to Gucci. Oh, and it's time to update your bag collection, stat!

Flouncy silhouettes

An elegant, ruffle-trimmed silk blouse is the simplest way to wear pink – paired with black tux trousers and ankle boots. For a ‘90s grunge vibe we’ll be looking to Alexa Chung - showing us (yet again) how to style up a baby pink slip dress, without looking too 'done'.

Colour-blocking is back

For those of you who are allergic to the full-on pink power suit, designers such as Stella McCartney and Chanel offered a mix of pastels, raspberry and wintery red ensembles on the runway.

The blushing bride

Who says women can only wear white on the big day? If the recent Paris Couture week is anything to go by, brides-to-be will be seeing a lot more pink pop-up on their wedding Pinterest feed.
