Proof The Basket Bag Is Not Just For The Beach

It's what I call an ‘all-rounder’. Something one can wear with anything, to any occasion.

The approval was clear during fashion month, the basket bag is a spring/summer must.

Not only did we see them at the Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana shows but, taking the form of everything from baskets to bumbags, it was the receptacle of choice on the front row.

Forget the memories of losing your phone for days on end amongst SPF miniatures and receipts and other nondescript bag paraphanalia, this season it's gone mini.

Here are the straw styles to be shopping now...

Crossbody

It's probably the most practical and smartens up surprisingly easily. This L.F.Markey one is the shape of Victoria Beckham's hyped-up half moon bag and fits a lot.

Buy: Wicker Shoulder Bag, £45, L.F.Markey

Bucket Bag

Though the bucket or basket shapes are kind of ridiculous, they are cute. Dress down the quirkiness with jeans and a simple shirt.

Buy: Straw Basket, £58, Free People

Mini Tote

The prim shape makes these the most eveningy of the options. Wear with an un-cutesy outfit to avoid looking cartoony and avoid too much pom-pom-age if you're trying to smarten it up.

Buy: Cayu Mini St Tropez Tote, £59, J.Crew

Straw Shopper

Ok, so we did say you wouldn't be losing things but the XXL straw bag is timeless. The classic carry-everything will serve you for summers to come, whether it's holding your laptop for work or your hammam towel for the beach.

Buy: Happy Bag, £89, Plumo
