It’s that time of year again; dust off the wellies, un-bury the bum bag and unpack the pac-a-mac. Festival season is upon us again, and with Coachella round the corner and Glastonbury looming, now is the time to brush up on this season’s biggest hair and beauty trends.

These are our favourite festival-approved trends to try this summer - scroll to the bottom to see our gallery of best street style looks.

Get Twisted

festival

Braids are always a good choice for festivals, and not just because they’re great for covering greasy locks. Kate Bosworth’s braided centre-part from 2015 is a reliable go-to but there are a plethora of other styles to choose from. Make a beeline for any on-site braid bars and have them give you an all-in up-do that will last the whole weekend. Or, for a wallet friendly alternative, grab a mate pre festival and school yourselves in the art of at-home braiding via YouTube - then you can take it turns to play hairdresser when you arrive.

All That Glitters

festival

For a modern, festival-appropriate take on sparkle, give glitter freckles a try. Simply apply a thin layer of vaseline to the apples of your cheeks and pat on the glitter of your choice - you really can’t mess this one up. Yep, you may be finding glitter on your face for days to come but we reckon it is totally worth the hassle.

Tie It Up

festival

Forget it’s schoolgirl connotations and tie your 3-day-old hair back with a ribbon for guaranteed style points. Loved by the fashion set of late, this bargain accessory can be picked up for just pennies at your local haberdashery, or reuse old gift wrapping if you’re feeling extra frugal.

Hidden Gems

festival

Unless you’ve been living under a rock these past few years, you’ll know the trend for all things nineties is well and truly back. Case in point: hair gems. Remember those? You probably picked them up at Claire’s. For a 2017 twist look for subtle shapes (we like stars), and stay clear of the OTT bling.

Go For Gold

festival

First spotted on SS16 Prada catwalk, festival season is the perfect excuse to finally rock that gold lipstick you have at the bottom of your makeup bag. Just add SPF, sunnies and a slick of mascara and you're good to go. Shop here.

Crystal Clear

festival

Move over flower crowns, this year it’s all about the crystal crown - the cool-girl alternative. ICYMI, crystals are pretty big news RN, and it seems these mystical stones have made their way from jewellery into accessories. Like a tiara but adorned with crystals, we imagine we’ll be seeing a lot of these at Coachella and beyond.
