Ikea is our go-to when it comes to Instagrammable plants, Balenciaga-esque bags and the finest Swedish meatballs. It has never been our first point of call when it comes to cool candles - until now.
The Swedish homewear giant today announced a collaboration with Ben Gorham, the perfumer behind cult Stockholm-based fragrance house, Byredo. Yep, it sounds like a Scandi match made in heaven.
Known for their monochrome minamilist aesthetic, unique scents and memorable product names, Byredo has become the perfume bottle to have on your shelf. Turning their hand to candles, body products and even leather goods they are now working their magic on a home fragrance line for Ikea.
Ikea shared the exciting news via a blogpost on their website. 'Get your noses ready – yes, your noses. IKEA and Ben Gorham, founder of Swedish perfume brand Byredo, are together launching a limited edition collection of… well, it’s still a surprise, but we can all anticipate something scented,' IKEA wrote.
While little is known about what the home fragrance collection will entail just yet, IKEA and Byredo 'are exploring new ways of bringing scent into the home.'
'I know most people have associations of visiting their grandmother’s house – whether it’s her perfume or the flowers or her cooking – smell is a very relevant part of the home. It creates a sense of comfort and security. We seldom speak of it and I think this project enforces that as well: getting people to think about smell,' Gorham explained.
'We’re trying to develop a ton of smells enforcing the idea that everyone has a different relationship to it, and nothing is right or wrong,' Gorham continued.
Launching in 2019, the blog post hinted that Swedish cinnamon buns might be one of the inspirations behind the project. Bring it on!
