There’s no doubt about it: we’re living through dark times. Today is Obama’s last day in office and Trump takes on the job of Most Powerful Man In The World tomorrow. Temperatures have reached sub-zero. The UK is officially leaving the single market. And now there’s a courgette crisis just to top it all off.

Thanks to the cold snap seizing Southern Europe, our favourite green veg to spiralise is now in jeopardy, with stocks low across the UK – if Twitter is anything to go by. Alongside the recent shortages of Prosecco, gin and avocados, this truly ranks as one of the worst #firstworldproblems. (Has anyone broken the news to Deliciously Ella yet?)

This morning #courgettecrisis was trending, with our usual acerbic British sense of humour coming seriously into play.

Truly, winter is coming.
