Misanthropes, rejoice! A new app promises to help you find love based on the things you really, really hate.

Dating app Hater promises to help you ‘meet someone who hates the same stuff as you’ – and if that isn’t the romantic goal your stony heart has been chasing all its life, then you’re probably too cheerful and we secretly find you really, really annoying (sorry, not sorry).

Once you’ve downloaded it, Hater gives you the option to express your true thoughts on everything from guacamole to Vladimir Putin, slow walkers to man-spreading, swiping up for ‘love’ and down for ‘hate.’ The app currently features 3,000 topics for you sound off upon, meaning that if you play for long enough, you can piece together a pretty accurate (and potentially terrifying) picture of the inside of your brain.

After that, Hater matches you with potential dates based upon your mutual likes and dislikes, presenting you with a compatibility percentage and the option to swipe left or right based on their picture (fear not: you can be a shallow Hater, too). Once you’ve matched, you can then play an ‘icebreaker game,’ allowing you to bond over more shared hate rather than opting for an embarrassing opener.

The app is the brainchild of former Goldman Sachs staffer Brendan Alper, who came up with the idea as a joke before bringing it to life.

The app’s official launch date is February 8th – just in time for Valentine’s Day? - but if you can’t wait that long to start angrily swiping, it is currently available from the app store in a beta version for iOS.

As it’s still in beta, there are a few teething problems with Hater. A quick test proved that you can’t narrow down the location radius, meaning that all your mutual haters are most likely to be found on the East Coast of America – but as we all know, the course of true love ne’er did run smooth.’

Happy hating!
