As well as overpriced cocktails and filtered selfies, you can’t scroll Instagram without seeing pictures of somebody’s holiday. From smug beach shots to snaps of a seriously snazzy hotel bathroom, in 2016, no trip is complete before you’ve documented the whole thing via Instagram.

However, some destinations are more popular to Instagram than others. As part of its Year in Review, the social media platform have worked out the most photographed places of 2016 using the app’s geo tagging function, and the results aren't exactly too surprising.

Coming in at number one is 'the happiest place on Earth', Disneyland. In fact, the USA destinations dominate the charts with America taking home 12 of the 20 places.

A number of other bucket list sites make the list including New York’s Central Park, Paris’ Eiffel Tower and Rome’s Colosseum. And there was only one UK destination to make the cut this year, London’s Tower Bridge.

See the full list of 20 below.
