Instagram Named The Worst Social Media Platform For Young People’s Mental Health

As anyone who has lost half an hour of their life down an Instagram black hole will know, the social media app doesn't do much to boost your mood or self-esteem.

It is hardly surprising then that a new study from The Royal Society for Public Health has found that Instagram is the worst of all the social media apps when it comes to negatively impacting on mental health.

The research, which focused on young people, asked 1,479 people aged 14-24 to score the most popular social media apps on issues such as anxiety, depression, loneliness, bullying and body image

In their report they concluded that ‘social media may be fuelling a mental health crisis’ in young people.

The RSPH called for social media platforms, in particular Instagram, to monitor heavy usage.

It wasn’t all doom and gloom though; the report stated that Instagram can have a positive effect on self-expression and self-identity.

As always, it's all about moderation and balance.
