You’ve said ‘YES!’, you and your husband-to-be are delightfully deciding who to invite and you spotted that quaint little dream venue to say ‘I do’. The fairytale is (almost) complete. There is just the not-so-minor detail of money. Because, try as you might to Do It On The Cheap, there always seems to be extra £££ to be spent, once you've factored in flowers, food, deposits, booze and more deposits.

A study by hitched.co.uk found that the average cost of a UK wedding costs £25,000. Yep, £25K. That’s a deposit on a house. Two MINI Coopers. Paying your student loan off…you get the picture. And a new survey from Barclays found that 4 in 10 Brits regret splashing the cash on their wedding day, with a third (31 per cent) of 25-44 year-olds wishing they’d used the money to purchase their first home instead.

‘Make sure that you plan well in advance for key life events, and be realistic about what you can afford,’ Clare Francis, Savings and Investments Director at Barclays said. ‘While it may be tempting to break the bank for a milestone moment, there is significant risk in spending everything on an event which does not always live up to expectations.’

So there you have it, less really is more (hurrah!). With high-street designers now jumping on board the wedding dress train – from Whistles, Topshop and Asos – being a super-stylish bride on a budget just got a whole lot easier.
