Zac Efron has taken to Twitter to apologise for a pretty insensitive tweet about Martin Luther King Day.
The Dirty Grandpa star got grief on Twitter after posting a photo of himself driving down a California street in a convertible accompanied by a message saying he’s thankful for the civil rights activist and also for his own huge online following.
He tweeted: “I'm grateful for a couple things today: Martin Luther King Jr & 10 million followers on IG #MLKDay.”
IG means Instagram, right? #DownWithTheKids
The next day he was forced to backtrack after his followers pointed out how insensitive he’d been.
“I have nothing but the greatest admiration and respect for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I realize that last night's post was completely insensitive and I apologize to anyone who I may have offended. So sorry. Z.”
One follower posted: “How did Zac Efron attempt to make MLK day about himself I am so baffled.”
“This is one of the most offensive/diminishing/disrespectful things anyone has said in relation to MLK today. Get over yourself,” wrote another.
