Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, the people's Geordie princess, has apparently resigned from The X Factor.

We are literally in shock over here.

The Fight For Your Love singer is said to have left the show so that she can concentrate on her pop career.

And it's said that Simon Cowell is totally cool with her decision.

Well, it'd be a bit rich for him to make a fuss after sacking her from The X Factor US in 2011. Not that Simon believes the rules of etiquette apply to him, most probably. Which is probably one of the reasons he's so massively successful.

“Cheryl told Simon of her decision at dinner last week in LA. They have had many discussions about the new series but she finally made up her mind," a source told The Sun.

“Her relationship with Simon is the best it's ever been and they both are incredibly supportive of each other

“Last year was one of her favourite series, she had a lot of fun mentoring her groups and enjoyed working closely with the production team on the show.”

In 2015, Cheryl mentored Reggie and Bollie who were runners-up in the competition and who we absolutely hadn't forgotten about until we just wrote those words. Honestly.

Cheryl is currently in LA with HOT BOYFRIEND Liam Payne from One Direction, working on a new album and making new music together.

Which gives us all kinds of palpipations.

And Cheryl's X Factor career is not over: it's thought that she'll return to the show for a live performance.

Plus, there's serious speculation Cheryl's newly vacated seat could be filled by no other than... AMANDA HOLDEN!

And at least Louis Walsh is coming back. We'll always have Louis.
