Yesterday, model Munroe Bergdorf appeared on Good Morning Britain to speak about some controversial comments she made about racism.
Munroe was sacked by L'Oréal last week – just days after being announced as their first transgender model.
This was over comments she made about the “racial violence” of “all white people.”
During an interview with Victoria Derbyshire yesterday morning, Munroe brought Cheryl Cole - an ambassador for L'Oréal - into the row.
She said: “They’ve got Cheryl Cole on the campaign and she was convicted for actively punching a black woman in the face.
“I don't understand how I'm not 'in line with their values' but they will hire Cheryl Cole over and over again and give her more and more chances, but she was convicted for punching a black woman in the face.”
A spokesperson for Cheryl has now released a statement saying: “More than 14 years ago Cheryl was unanimously acquitted of a charge of racially aggravated assault.
“She is disappointed to find her name involved in Munroe Bergdorf's media interview.”
This is referring to an incident that happened back in January 2003, in which Cheryl was accused of attacking Sophie Amogbokpa, a toilet attendant, at Drink nightclub in Guildford.
Munroe’s controversial comments were made via a now-deleted Facebook post, which read: "Honestly I don’t have energy to talk about the racial violence of white people any more. Yes ALL white people.”
L'Oréal then announced on Twitter: “L’Oréal champions diversity. Comments by Munroe Bergdorf are at odds with our values and so we have decided to end our partnership with her.”
