Aside from recent excitement over the new royal baby, the stand out baby news of 2017 was without doubt the arrival of baby Chiam.

We're borderline obsessed with Liam Payne, Cheryl and their adorable son Bear and practically hyperventilate when Liam teases another cute snap on his Instagram.

But one thing we've been wondering for a while, is where on earth the name Bear came from. Don't get us wrong, we love it. But we had kinda hoped they'd name their first-born son something along the lines of Harry Niall Louis Zayn Payne.

Anyway, Liam has now revealed why he and Chezza opted for Bear.

Appearing on The Late Late Show, Liam was quizzed by the show's host James Corden as to why he hadn't chosen James – aka 'the best name in the world' – as the moniker for his son.

"Can you tell everyone what you called your son and explain why it wasn't me and where the name came from?" James asked.

Then Liam, who was sat between actor James Van Der Beek and comedian Jim Gaffigan, responded: "As you can see I'm surrounded by Jameses, so you can't really be the first James anymore, can you? It's not possible.

"So, the only logical thing to do was to call him Bear."

Oh, obviously.

Liam later went on to explain the real meaning behind the name – and it's quite adorable.

"You know what? When he was born, I think one of the midwives said it, he actually has this thing where if they don't have a good cry, they get fluid on their lungs which is quite serious," he revealed.

"So, he was going 'grrr', growling away when he was sleeping, so I had specialists running in and out of the hospital while my missus was asleep and he was being checked over, and they were like, 'Oh, I'm not really sure, we'll get someone else in'.

"And I had like, ten doctors coming in the room and in the end, one guy was like, 'Dude I'm not being funny, there's nothing wrong with him – just likes to make a lot of noise.

"And that's carried on ever since – so he just became Bear."

HE'S A REAL-LIFE LITTLE GRIZZLY BEAR AND WE CAN'T COPE.
