Lamar Odom’s doctors fear he is seriously brain damaged as he is unable to recognise close friends and family during hospital visits.

The basketball player was left fighting for his life and was put into a medical coma after he was found unresponsive at a legal Nevada brothel last month following an alleged drink and drugs overdose.

The sportsman has made little progression in the last two weeks and is only able to “speak a word here and there” and seems “empty”, according to TMZ.

Keeping Up With the Kardashians star Lamar is apparently unable to recognise long-term friends and family and doctors think he may be have suffered significant brain damage.

Wife Khloe Kardashian, who called off their divorce after he was taken ill, has admitted Lamar does not even know why he is in hospital.

In an upcoming chat show interview with Ellen DeGeneres, she said: “I’m there helping him and I love him and I’ve always loved him.

“And that will never change. And I just feel like it’s a really insensitive thing to fast forward a divorce.

“We tell him that he had a brain injury, but we can’t tell him how that brain injury was caused, because that will set him back.

“He never asks why he’s here. He doesn’t ask. He’s really confused a lot – sometimes he knows who the president is and his birthday, and sometimes he thinks he’s 26, and I bet you wish you were 26, so do I!”
