Last night (if you were in America or doing some nawty streaming, otherwise you have to wait until tonight), Game Of Thornes returned to our TV screens and the internet went into a bit of a meltdown.

After over a year of anticipation the hit show made its big comeback with the first episode of season seven and was just as dark and sexy as ever, but this time there was a special cameo from none-other than Ed Sheeran. 'Cos he just screams dark, brooding and willing to fight his whole family to the death for a bit of power, doesn't he?

During Ed's scene Arya Stark comes across a group of soldiers as she rides through the woods on horseback. Ed plays one of these soldiers and is, of course, singing a campfire song when the young stark approaches. He's pretty hard to miss thanks to the incredibly unsubtle close up of his face.

Fans on Twitter had mixed reactions to Ed's cameo.

Some thought it was a bit of shameless self-promotion:

Others were just a bit perplexed by the whole thing:

But a few people were totally living for it:

Ed previously spoke about his GoT cameo, saying: "I’m only in it for like five minutes."

He also revealed he'd kinda be up for a sex scene: "I’d probably prefer to have sex than die in the show."

Maybe next time, eh Ed?
